SAVE $15.00!! Our Goat Milk Bar Soap with Shea Butter by the Loaf is an economical choice and still made with the same wonderful natural ingredients. Our soaps are all made by hand from base ingredients and will produce an abundant creamy lather that pampers your skin. By ordering a whole loaf of soap it cuts production & overhead costs for us so we can pass that savings on to you. A loaf of our soap produces when cut by us 9 bars of soap. You can order a whole loaf of soap (9 bars = $45 if bought separately) and we will cut it so it can dry (allow 10 days to 2 weeks) before sending it out to you.
Understandable Ingredient List:
Shea Butter* - We buy unrefined organic Ghana Shea Butter that is not processed with chemicals in any way to whiten it or remove the scent. We temper it with heat and then filter it ourselves and add it after the soap has become soap so the goodness of the shea butter comes through.
Palm Oil* - Makes the bar hard and provides mild cleaning soap that is more emollient. Palm oil contributes to the dense creamy lather. We have switched to a palm oil that comes from small responsible growers and not the corporations who have burned down rainforests to grow palm trees in countries that allow that. By not boycotting all palm oil we continue to support the small farmers who are ethical and responsible.
Water - Hydrating wonderful stuff and we use distilled water so there are no elements that would interfere with the soap making.
Goat Milk - We use goat milk that is powdered and distributed by a company that oversees the farmers who produce this milk to be ethical and as safe as possible. We know how much fat is contained in this milk so we can duplicate our soaps over and over.
Coconut Oil - This wonderful oil makes the big bubble lather and contributes hardness to the bar of soap. Although all oils when made into soap clean, this one is the one that produces the first large bubbles so we use it for that quality.
Rice Bran Oil - This soap contributes to the dense lather and keeps the soap from stripping your skin.
Sodium Lactate - This helps keep the soap fluid while we are making it, but as it dries it makes bar soap harder. It is actually a salt that is formed by fermentation.
Beeswax - We use natural beeswax in a very small amount to help harden the bars of soap so they don't melt away too quickly. Nothing worse than that!
Granulated Cane Sugar - Pure bit of sweetness added which actually enhances the lather. Too much and it would be sticky, so we use just enough.
NaOH or Sodium Hydroxide - This is mixed with the water, sodium lactate and a bit of sugar. The NaOH mixture is then added to the melted oils and stirred over heat until the mixture thickens and becomes soap. It is left on the heat until the NaOH mixture and oils have completely becomes one which is that bubbly stuff we call soap. We now add the glycerin and just the right amount of extra oil (superfat) so that our bars are mild and gentle for all skin types. Too much of this can make the bar soap soft and cut the lather so we have to be careful not to add too much. After this the fragrance and coloring added in and the mixture is put into the soap mold. We let it cool and harden up just enough so that we can cut the bars of soap. The soap can be used at this stage but it would melt fast. After cutting the bars we put on a rack to dry completely which takes 10-14 days.
